Isuzu NQR81
The Isuzu NQR81 is part of the N-Series light-to-medium duty trucks. In Kenya the NQR81K version is specified with a 4.78 litre 4HK1-TCN engine producing about 150 hp (114 kW) at 2,600 rpm and torque ~402 Nm at 1,500-2,600 rpm, and a GVW around 8,500 kg.
Its strength lies in its versatility: it’s strong enough for moderate loads, yet nimble enough for shorter route distribution and urban logistics. For example it is used for cargo delivery, bodies for retail goods, staff transport or small-scale construction supply. It strikes a good balance between capacity and cost.
A buyer should consider the NQR81 when their loads are heavier than very light-truck class (say above 3–4 tonnes) but do not yet need the heavy rigid class. It gives good value, decent payload, and lower operating cost than heavier trucks. Key purchase considerations: ensure the body size fits the load, check if your usage will maximise the 8.5-tonne GVW, and ensure service network supports the engine and common-rail turbo variants.
In short: the NQR81 is a workhorse for medium-duty tasks and offers a sweet spot of capability and cost for many businesses.
